  • Nigerian Pro Wrestling Federation Is Set For "2021 Battleground" - High Chief John O. Uche.





  • The President of the Nigerian Pro Wrestling Federation, High Chief John O. Uche has emphasized that the new executive of the federation elected last year is set to revolutionise the game in Nigeria, the biggest and most populated African nation to what it used to be at the inception of the sport in Nigeria in the late 60s and early 70s.     While addressing the professional wrestling talents at the Wrestling Arena of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos last weekend at a meeting that was well attended by Nigerian wrestlers, he emphasised that professional wrestling is set to take its rightful position in Nigeria which will eventually affect positively neighbouring African countries looking up to the Nigerian nation. The timely meeting which was purposely planned for the president to brief the wrestlers on the new championship tagged Presidential Fight Against Corruption ’’BATTLEGROUND 2021’’ billed to commence in March 2021 once President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR flags it off in Abuja, “We held an election last year June after which we were inaugurated into office. We had it in mind to hold a worldwide championship in October and involve world notable wrestlers but the lockdown and travel restrictions affected all the plans which made us to postpone the international event though it will still hold before this New Year runs out. Despite that, we are not relenting. We are going to take the bull by the horn to take the sport to the next level and hold a national event in Nigerian seven states. Lagos, Delta, Imo, Ebonyi are ready fully for the event while still discussing and pushing for Bauchi, Plateau and Kano”, the pro-wrestling federation president explained.

    According to the President, “the events will take place in Abuja first where President Muhammadu Buhari will flag off the show before other states. DSTV is ready to partner with us on this likewise other home based electronic media so as to have a successful event in the last week of March and early April 2021”, he concluded. Before the commencement of the meeting, Eze Dr. John C. Nwosu the chairman of the Local Organising Committee introduced the federation president to the wrestlers first before introducing Eze King Joseph Egbogu, LOC Member who is the Eze Ndigbo of Isolo and chief (Mrs.) Lizzy Anowai the championship woman leader and also a member of the LOC while Chief Vincent Dimanozie a.k.a Iron Bone, the federation Technical Director introduced all the wrestlers that were present.

    Nigerian wrestlers already training to participate in the national event championship are Power VIC of Akwa Ibom; Flying Dan Ko, Zion Lion, Strong Bone Erukujeje, Delta Warrior, Mighty Man, Mr. Sharpman, Will Mascara, Stone Cold Henry, Super Apama, Progress, Kingstone, Tony Destroyer and the ladies: Tina Terror, Lady Bunmi, Iron Lady Becky, Stylish ’’J’’ and Alexandra the Queen, while the Anambra state talents: Big Fish, Squeezer and Dangerous Angle are prepared as well to show the stuff they are made off.

    Two belts in the heavyweight and light heavyweight categories were showcased after the meeting with promise to get more before the timely championship. It will definitely be needful to get more titles as winners must emerge in other weight categories of cruiser weight, middleweight and the ladies champion.

    Speaking to Newsmen, the Akwa Ibom-born one time Champion, Power VIC said that he is eying the belt as he is battle ready for it, “I am battle ready for the coveted belt. Any where the championship would be hosted, I am ready, able and available. I want to specially request that the President of the Nigerian Pro Wrestling Federation, High Chief John Uche should consider Akwa Ibom as one of the Centres in Nigeria as my Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel is a sports loving governor, this is seen in the building of FIFA approved stadia in all the Federal constituencies in the state. Apart from the governor, there are sports loving people in my state who are ready and willing to support this lofty  course for instance, the Executive Chairman of my LGA, Hon. Joshua Affia is also a dire heart sport supporter”.
